Chelsea Head Coach Thomas Tuchel got into a heated physical exchange against Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, as the two London sides had to settle for a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel tried to handshake his rival coach who was in no mood to return the gesture, leading both of them to trade words. The individuals had to be separated by the officials and their respective players. Both of the men were shown red cards by referee Anthony Taylor.

The two head coaches even collided before the game ended as Harry Kane scored an equalizer in the sixth minute of the stoppage time to level the score at 2-2. Conte was seen running towards the touchline, high on emotions. The two had to be restrained by their staff that time as well. 

All this happened during a series of events as Tottenham’s scored their second goal. Cristian Romero, centre back of Tottenham, pulled Chelsea’s LB Marc Cucurella’s hair in the corner that led to the corner Kane scored from.

Talking to Sky Sports after the match, Tuchel explained the war of words against Conte. He said,” I thought when we shake hands you looked in each other eyes, he had a different opinion.”

The former PSG head coach, Tuchel also criticized the officiating for the game involving Tottenham’s goals and him being given a red card along with Conte.

He said, “Both [Tottenham goals] cannot stand. Only one team deserved to win.” 

It (the red cards) was not necessary but many things were unnecessary. Another poor decision from the referee” added Tuchel.

He continued to play the incident down by saying that it was ’emotional football’ and ‘you have two emotional coaches on the touchline and that’s it.

With this draw, Chelsea and Tottenham are equal on points but the North London side, Tottenham Hotspurs are ahead in the standing because of a better goal difference. Chelsea is in the 7th spot while Tottenham is in the fourth place.

The two teams next collide in the league on February 23, 2023, at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium.
