Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was involved in a car crash on Monday morning, but all involved escaped without serious injuries.

After the incident involving the Portuguese playmaker’s Porsche, Fernandes is expected to train with the United squad at Carrington.

The Ralf Rangnick led team faces Premier League title contenders Liverpool at Anfield. The Merseyside club has been in prolific form, knocking out league table-toppers Manchester City from the FA Cup in a 3-2 victory in the semi-finals.

The 27-year-old Fernandes played a full 90 minutes in United’s last fixture against Norwich, which turned out to be a nailbiter with Cristiano Ronaldo clinching the match with his 50th club hattrick, though the opposite side put up a good show netting two past David de Gea.

As United face the Jurgen Klopp-coached side, the results of the match will set the tone for City’s game against Brighton on Wednesday.

With Liverpool only trailing City by a point, a victory against United would place the Reds two points ahead of the league toppers and create pressure on Pep Guardiola to match the result on Wednesday.

The Spanish tactician already faces pressure in the Champions League as well, going up against Real Madrid in the semi-finals. The Los Blancos have been on an indomitable streak, dashing Chelsea’s Champions League retention hopes, and snatching a hard-earned 3-2 win, on Sunday, in an away fixture against Sevilla.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will face Villarreal who pulled off a gritty feat, knocking out one of the favourites, Bayern Munich, to progress to the semis.
