Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United striker, has confirmed that his baby boy has died.

Ronaldo released a statement saying, “It is with the deepest sadness that we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It’s the greatest pain any parents can feel.”

The statement, signed by the talismanic striker and his partner Georgina Rodriguez, who recently gave birth to a twin boy and girl, continued “Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all the care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”

The couple jointly signed the statement.

Ronaldo was already a father of four, with three children born to two surrogate mothers.

The personal loss to the footballer comes ahead of a high-pressure Premier League fixture against Liverpool, at Anfield, on April 20. The Portuguese also faces an uncertain future at the club with the reported arrival of Dutchman Erik ten Hag, to take on the reins as the manager.

The former Ajax manager outlined that Ronaldo’s playstyle doesn’t suit the team, stating that the high-rated striker would most likely be sold.

The United forward said, “I never imagined I would fall so heavily in love with her”, adding, “But after a while, I felt that she was the one for me”.
