Mauricio Pochettino was appointed as Chelsea’s manager on Monday. He takes over from caretaker Frank Lampard.

Pochettino’s Chelsea team includes his son Sebastiano. Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino and Toni Jimenez are the others. The Argentine’s appointment comes as the team is struggling for form.

Pochettino has coached Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint Germain, Southampton and Espanyol in the past. He has joined Chelsea on a two-year-deal with the option of a further year, from July 1. He comes to the Bridge after Graham Potter was sacked. The Englishman was in charge for seven months.

Frank Lampard led Chelsea on a caretaker basis. The team finished the 2022 season with a draw against New Castle. They are 12th on the table.

Talking about Pochettino’s appointment, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: “Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward. He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.”

Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, Jose E. Feliciano, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss, the owners, said that they are looking forward to having a world-class coach.

“The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the board is proud of. We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea. Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board.”

Who are Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino?

Perez is Pochettino’s right-hand man. He is usually present during press conferences, warm-ups and practice sessions. Perez is known to place high emphasis on fitness. He is believed to be the man behind Southampton and Tottenham being some of the fittest sides.

Miguel d’Agostino is the Chelsea manager’s long-time son. They met while playing at Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina. He was a part of Pochettino’s Espanyol team too.

Toni Jimenez, a goalkeeper, played for several La Liga giants – Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Espanyol.

Sebastian Pochettino is the manager’s son. He joins Chelsea as a sports scientist.
