American soccer player Megan Rapinoe is being trolled on social media for missing a penalty kick against Sweden. The loss eventually led to the team’s elimination from the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday.

Following a tight penalty shootout against Sweden, they were eliminated in the round of 16. This unexpected result destroyed the team’s illustrious history of consistently making it to at least the semifinal round of contests.

The United States had the most opportunities as Sweden battled to maintain control of the game. Players like Lindsey Horan and Alex Morgan had great opportunities, but Zecira Musovic’s remarkable goalkeeping abilities prevented them from taking advantage of them.

Musovic was confident as the game headed to a penalty shootout, but she didn’t even have to make a save. The displeasure for the American squad increased when Megan Rapinoe, Sophia Smith, and Kelley O’Hara all missed their targets with their penalties. In the end, it was Swedish competitor Lina Hurtig who prevailed.

After the penalty miss from Megan Rapinoe. Several X users and soccer fans trolled her for the mishap which eventually led to the team’s elimination. One user wrote, “Megan rapinoe should shut up about transwomen compete in women sports, she can’t even beat sweeden women team And she wants men that act like women compete in women sports? There’s a women world cup for women, not for trans!!”

“I’m glad we got beat. I’m tired of Megan rapinoe and what she stands for. She hates America and she has made our country look like shit. Represented us terribly. Please never put another USA jersey on.” another user wrote.
