Cameron Boyce of the Melbourne Renegades made Big Bash League history by becoming the first bowler to record a ‘double hat-trick’ in the competition. Boyce accomplished the feat at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday during the Renegades’ match against the Sydney Thunder.

Boyce took out Alex Hales, Jason Sangha, Alex Ross, and Daniel Sams to complete the BBL’s first double hat-trick. He removed Hales with the penultimate ball of his first over, and then struck to dismiss the other batters in the first three deliveries of his second.

Boyce’s amazing four wickets flipped the game on its head, as the Thunder pair of Hales and Khawaja got the team off to a good start. The pair had put up 80 runs for the first wicket before Boyce gave the Renegades their maiden wicket. The England batter lofted Boyce’s delivery towards long-off, setting up an easy catch for Unmukt Chand at the position.

Then, in the second over, Sangha was stumped out, and both Ross and Sams went out leg before wicket.

Boyce went on to claim a five-wicket haul in his next over, dismissing Thunder’s wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Gilkes on 2.

The Renegades won the toss and chose to bowl at the MCG.

Renegades, who are already out of contention for a spot in the tournament final, sit at the bottom of the standings with 16 points in 13 games. So far in the tournament, the team has only won three games. Thunder, meanwhile, are in third place.
