Liverpool and Real Madrid face each other in the Champions League final in Paris, and ahead of the match, Los Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti shared his thoughts about the support they expect. 

He said, “I know the Evertonians support us tomorrow for sure. There is a big rivalry on Merseyside”, adding, “I had a good memory of my time in Liverpool, on the blue side, and I am sure they will support me tomorrow”, This is Anfield reported. 

Everton indeed are Liverpool’s longtime rivals, and their latest 2-0 defeat to the Reds during the Premier League season will be on the fans’ minds when they extend support to Real Madrid. The Anfield side’s prolific form this season has seen Jurgen Klopp’s team play every possible fixture, winning the Carabao and FA Cups, nearly missing out on the PL title to Manchester City and now the Reds ready themselves to face Madrid. Liverpool has also remained unbeaten since March, only losing a total of three games this season.

Their success has not won them many fans. Moreover, Everton’s tiff with Liverpool has a long history, with the Anfield side players not losing any chances to stick it to their rivals whenever opportunities have arisen. Think back to the infamous Robbie Fowler celebration in the 1999 derby. Fowler, who’d faced accusations of being a cocaine user, scored the equalizer in a match Liverpool won 3-2. He then proceeded to kneel in front of Everton supporters, and pretend to snort the goal line. 

Real Madrid, too, have plenty of people who’d like to watch the Spanish giants fail. Among them are those who took offence to the 2018 foul by Sergio Ramos which put Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah out of action in the CL final, giving Madrid their trophy. Moreover, they’ve won the La Liga title, so many of their Spanish rivals are likely to be rooting for an English miracle in France.

Klopp, on Wednesday, told reporters as much, noting “In this Champions League final, I really think the world is either white or red because there are some people who don’t like us too much, and some people don’t like Madrid too much!”
