The only bright spot in Texas’ 100-loss season, Adolis Garcia broke the Rangers rookie record for home runs and RBIs with his two-run homer to lead his side to a comeback 7-6 victory over Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.

“I knew when I hit it. I made really good contact. It was a really special moment,” Garcia said through a translator, according to Associated Press. “I just felt a little anxious to get it done.”

Garcia’s 31st home run, a two-run bomb to the Rangers’ bullpen in right-centre in the fifth inning, brought his RBI total to 90. It was his first home run in 14 games since tying Pete Incaviglia’s rookie record of 30 homers in 1986, and when he drove in two runs in the series opener Tuesday night, he matching Incaviglia’s 88 RBIs.

Garcia’s two homers in the eighth inning were capped by Brock Holt’s two-run double.

“I’ve been wanting it so bad for him,” manager Chris Woodward said. “I’m glad he did it on one swing. … Obviously, he’s had a heck of a year, All-Star, all of the above. All the accolades, he deserves.”

Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani, the two-way All-Star for Los Angeles who is done pitching this season, got his 99th RBI on his AL-leading eighth triple as the Angels batted around in a five-run first inning.

After starting off the ninth inning with an opposite-field flyout to the warning track in left, Ohtani went 2 for 5 with a ball that Woodward first thought was going out of the park until DJ Peters grabbed it in the heel of his glove and held it with his right hand.

With three games remaining, Ohtani is batting 0.259. On a sluggish grounder through the left side of the infield, the Japanese wonder had a hustle double and scored another run, bringing his season total to 101. Ohtani had just been the first AL player to hit 45 home runs, 100 runs, and steal 25 bases in the same season the night before.

Before Holt’s double to right off Jimmy Herget (2-3), who pitched in four games for Texas earlier this season, the Rangers had not even been tied in the game. That occurred after a one-out walk by Nick Solak and a double by Peters, who had hit a three-run homer earlier in the game.

The fourth Texas pitcher, Spencer Patton (2-2), pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Joe Barlow pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning against the Angels’ starting order for his 11th save in 12 opportunities and eighth of the season.
