The New York Yankees have not done much to solidify their
bench in the MLB trade window that ended on Friday and the team faced another blow as
Domingo German was placed on the 10-day Injury List on Sunday with an inflammation
in his right shoulder.

Albert Abreu — who gave up six runs without retiring a
batter in his last outing against the Tampa Bay Rays — was called up as a replacement of German.

The blow comes a day after German pitched for four innings
and gave up two runs in Saturday’s win over the Miami Marlins. German threw a
total of 66 pitches in the outing and was removed for pinch-hitter Gio Urshela
with two on and two out in the top of the fifth innings.

Andrew Heaney was acquired on Friday in a trade with the Los
Angeles Angels and was already slated to make his debut with the team on Monday.
Nestor Cortes was to move back into a long-relief role.

Cortes may have to be shifted back into the rotation while
the Yankees wait for Luis Severino to complete his rehab from Tommy John
surgery, which was delayed by the strained groin he suffered in June, the New
York Post reported. Corey Kluber is also on the injury list with a strained
shoulder that has sidelined him since May.

German pitched seven no-hit innings in his previous start
before he was removed after an eighth-inning double. On Saturday, he kept the
Marlins hitless into the fourth before a pair of hits led to the two runs.
