Montana Fouts’ career at Alabama has come to a close in Oklahoma City in the College World Series.
Although it was a brief journey, this Crimson Tide team did make it to the Women’s College World Series. Alabama’s season came to an end on Friday after losing to Tennessee 10-5 the day before and falling to Stanford 2-0.

Her courageous final performance drew a major reaction from fans who paid respect to her career.
Fouts will never use her injury as justification for what happened on Friday. She dismissed her injury when questioned about it earlier this week. “Pain is temporary. I’ll feel that some other day,” she said with no hint of humor in her voice.

However, the injury may have been too great in the end to overcome. Fouts was unable to effectively pitch against a strong Stanford club. Fouts was topping out at 67-68 mph despite having a fastball that reaches 72-73 mph.
Fouts started a game against Northwestern and pitched twice in relief after suffering a knee injury at the super regional. Her longest outing was 3.2 innings in a win. She never threw a pitch over 60 pitches throughout the game.

Stanford struck in the second inning when Sydney Steele doubled to right field. The ball landed just under the glove of a diving Larissa Preuitt. That brought in Stanford’s Emily Shultz, who opened the inning with a single, to make it 1-0. Stanford added an insurance run in the seventh on a solo home run from Steele for the 2-0 lead.
Fouts has been the face of Alabama softball for years. She had 1,181 strikeouts, 100 wins and a 1.66 ERA in her time in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Crimson Tide fell to Stanford 2-0 on Friday to end their season with a 45-22 record.
