Mahendra Singh Dhoni of Chennai Super Kings added yet another feather to his cap on Friday as he became the most-capped player in the history of the Indian Premier League with his 194 appearances. Dhoni surpassed CSK teammate Suresh Raina to become the most capped player in the cash-rich tournament.

Captain MS Dhoni has played every edition of the Indian Premier League since its inception in 2008, he is also into his 11th season for the CSK franchise, a side he has always captained except for in 2016 and 2017, when the Chennai franchise was suspended for a spot-fixing scandal.

Dhoni had also donned the jersey of Rising Pune Superstars in 2016 and 2017, a side he captained for two years and played a final for in 2017.

Dhoni’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday is his 164th game for the Chennai franchise, he had also played 30 matches with Rising Pune Superstars.  

Captain MS Dhoni is also one of the most successful skippers in IPL history having won the tournament thrice in 2010, 2011 and 2018. Under Dhoni, the Chennai franchise has made eight appearances in the final of the IPL.

Dhoni himself has featured in nine finals which includes one for Rising Pune Superstars in 2017.

Dhoni also has 4476 runs to his name in the tournament and averages at 44 runs per game.

However, Indian skipper Virat Kohli holds the record for the most number of appearances for a single franchise with 180 caps for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 13 editions.

In the list of most IPL appearances are MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Kartick, Virat Kohli and Robin Uthappa, as per Wisden India.

Dhoni has 194 matches to his name, while has 193 and Sharma is third with 192, followed by Dinesh Kartick at 185, Virat Kohli and Robin Uthappa at 180.
