Daniel Sams managed to defend nine runs in the last over to guide the Mumbai Indians to a five-run win over the Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Friday.

Ball by ball account:

19.1: Daniel Sams started the over with 104.8kph short of length slower ball that was slapped to sweeper cover by David Miller. The batter took a run. 

19.2: Sams followed the first slower ball with another one, this time fuller. Rahul Teatia went for a cut and missed. The equation was down to eight runs needed in four balls.

19.3: With Tewatia on strike, Sams bowled from a short length, 110.3kph. The batter pulled it to mid-wicket and called for two runs. Howver, Tilak Varma, who was standing at deep mid-wicket ran quickly to his right and delivered an accurate throw to find Rahul Tewatia centimetres short of the crease. The GT player was run out. 

Rashid Khan came out to bat. 

19.4: Daniel Sams, still delivering slow, went into the wicket. Rashid Khan cleared his front leg to pull only to top edge. The bowler ran back but couldn’t take the catch. The batters changed strike. 

Equation: 6 runs | 2 balls.

19.5: Sams went wide with a 116.3kph off-speed delivery. David Miller swung but missed. 

19.6: With six runs needed on the last ball, Sams went with a  dipping, low full toss outside off. Miller threw the kitchen sink at it but missed. 

The 20th over went for three runs and the Mumbai Indians won by five runs.

“What a crazy game! Awesome to get over the line. It was one of those games which just kept going backwards and forwards. It was good viewing out in the field and I am sure it was good on TV. 9 off 6 is one of those ones.. I just kind of look at it as I have nothing to lose here, probably the odds are in the batters favour, so I thought I will stick to my best ball and lucky enough I was able to keep it inside the wide line,” Sams said after the match. He recorded figures of 0/18 in three overs.
