Centre Anthony Davis starred for the Los Angeles Lakers with 34 points and 15 rebounds as they sank San Antonio Spurs 114-106 on Sunday. Season debutant Talen Horton-Tucker added 17 points to the Lakers’ tally while Carmelo Anthony and Wayne Ellington each had 15 points.

Going into the third quarter, the Lakers were already leading by 14 points and held on to improve to 3-3 since LeBron James was sidelined November 4 because of an abdominal strain.

Davis’ huge game came two days after the Lakers were humiliated by 24 points in a home defeat to Minnesota, with the All-Star forward calling the performance “embarrassing” and claiming the squad lacked effort in the decisive third quarter.

With 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, Dejounte Murray achieved a triple-double for the Spurs. Keldon Johnson led the team with 24 points.

Doug McDermott’s 3-pointer cut the Spurs’ deficit to 105-103 with 2:41 left. The Lakers went on a 7-0 run to seize control, with Anthony hitting a 3-pointer with 1:46 left for a 110-103 lead and new-signee Russell Westbrook adding a layup for a 112-103 advantage.
