Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic has agreed to
sign a historic five-year, $207 million supermax rookie extension with the Dallas
Mavericks, BDA Sports agent Bill Duffy confirmed to ESPN on Monday. The deal
includes a player option for the final year.

Having been voted to the first-team All-NBA
twice, Doncic, at just 22, is fast becoming one of the future faces of the league. He is first player eligible for the
designated rookie max extension.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, general manager
Nico Harrison, coach Jason Kidd were among a delegation from the franchise that
landed in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Monday to officially present Doncic and Duffy
with the contract.

Doncic is set to sign the contract on Tuesday,
when he will also hold a press conference.

In a statement to ESPN, Doncic said, “Today is
a dream come true. The game of basketball has given me so much and has taken me
to so many amazing places. I am humbled and excited to remain in Dallas as part
of the Mavericks.”

“I am committed to the organization and
appreciate the support of my fans. Along with this new contract, I am also
happy to announce that I am increasing my efforts and focusing on expanding The
Luka Dončić Foundation. My foundation is an international non-profit that will
give back to places that mean so much to me like my home country of Slovenia,
as well as the communities in North Texas.”

“I’m happy to share in partnership with 2K
Foundations we are unveiling two basketball courts here in Slovenia soon. We
are refurbishing my childhood courts where I learned and practiced the game.
The opportunity for kids to play on the same courts and pursue the same dreams
I had is something I’m excited about.”

Doncic was the youngest MVP in EuroLeague
history in 2017-18 after leading Real Madrid to the title, before he was the
third overall pick in the NBA Draft that year, with Atlanta Hawks trading him to
the Mavericks for Trae Young and a future first-round pick.

Doncic was the Rookie of the Year in 2018-19
and has been selected to the first-team All-NBA for the last two years. In his
NBA career so far, he has averaged 25.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.7 assists
per game.

In 13 playoff games, he has averaged 33.5
points, 8.8 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game. However, the Mavericks are yet
to advance past the first-round of the Western Conference playoffs, losing to
the Los Angeles Clippers in each of the last two seasons.
