Phoenix Suns were dealt an injury blow ahead of the NBA finals game 2 against the Milwaukee Bucks. Reserve forward Dario Saric has been ruled out of the NBA finals owing to a torn knee ligament, the Suns announced on Wednesday.

The Suns registered a comprehensive 118-105 victory over the Bucks in game one of the finals on Tuesday. During the game, Saric limped out after his right knee buckled as he landed awkwardly during the first quarter.

The 27-year-old Croatian needed to be helped off the court and appeared to be unable to put any weight on his right leg as he left the game.

The team on Wednesday confirmed that the player had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. In its statement, the Suns also said that Saric would be out ‘indefinitely’.

Saric entered the finals averaging 4.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game during the postseason.

In game one, Milwaukee Bucks were boosted by the return of two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo. But he couldn’t lift his side to victory against the Suns.

The 26-year-old Greek forward, who missed two games after suffering the injury last week, scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Bucks in a 118-105 road loss in the best-of-seven championship series. The next game will be played on Thursday.

Antetokounmpo said he was happy being back on the court as he was worried that he might be out for a year. “I can run. I can jump. I can set screens. I can rebound the ball. I’m happy I’m out there,” Antetokounmpo said. “I was worried I’d be out for a year. Two games and I’m back. I’m happy.”

Chris Paul emerged as the star for the Phoenix Suns. The 36-year-old guard, who is playing his 16th NBA season, scored 32 points in the game. He also passed off nine assists to get his team 1-0 in the seven game series.
