The NBA 2022 training camp is only two months away, and many teams are expecting a significant roster change. The process of revamping a roster begins with the position of a point guard. As the NBA has become more guard-oriented, playmaking has become increasingly important. Having a guard who can both score and create assists a team’s offense significantly.

The talent at the point guard position is immense. The league has an excellent combination of old-school point guards and new age two-guards. The likes of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray are matching the numbers of old heads like Chris Paul or James Harden. The position of PG has transitioned more into a two-guard role. The prime example of this is Steph Curry. The all-time league leader of three-pointers is generally a Point guard but plays like a shooting guard.

Here is a look at the Top-5 Point Guards heading into the 2022-23 season:-

1) Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors

The greatest shooter on the planet just won the Finals MVP. This was the only personal accolade that was missing from his cabinet. He also proved to the world that he can win a title for the Golden State Warriors as their best man. He was clearly the best player on the floor during every game of the NBA Finals. He also raised his assists tally this year to 6.3 per game as compared to 5.8 in the previous season.

2) Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Luka Magic, as he has been commonly referred to, has been a one-man wrecking crew for the Mavs ever since he has been in the league. He was selected to his third consecutive ALL-NBA First team, thereby becoming the first player since Kevin Durant to be selected in the first team three times before their rookie contract ended. He also took a near-average Mavericks squad to their first Western Conference since 2010, when they won the NBA championship.

3) Ja Morant, Memphis Grizzlies

Ja Morant was one injury away from leading the Grizzlies to a Western Conference finals appearance. He was as phenomenal as one could say during the regular season. Morant was a potential candidate for a brief period of time in the season. The Grizzlies star had plenty of poster dunks in the season and remind the basketball fraternity of a pre-injury Derrick Rose.

4) Chris Paul, Phoenix Suns

The Point God had a marvelous 2019-20 season when he took the Suns to the NBA Finals. The expectations for the team were similar coming into the 2021-22 season. The team had a league-best record with 64 wins. They looked well poised to reach back to the finals but their dreams were shattered by an inspired performance by Luka Doncic in the West Semis. Chris Paul is without a ring and this year might be his final opportunity to finally win the NBA Championship.

5) Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks

Trae Young got the help he desperately needed when the Hawks traded for Dejounte Murray, a fellow point guard and All-Star in 2022. Murray will help ease up a load of Trae Young carrying the ball up the floor every possession. This will thereby allow him to take more open shots. Young has been averaging almost 10 assists every season, since his rookie year. He needs to control his turnovers, as he led the league in the category this year.
