Rajasthan Royals‘ Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 play-offs hopes were dented after they were condemned to a 7-wicket loss by bottom-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Batting first, the Sanju Samson-led side managed to put up a competitive 164/5 in 20 overs. While Royals failed to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals, Sunrisers, during its chase, bossed the RR’s bowling attack.
Even though Sanju Samson said that his team put up a decent score, they still need to work on their bowling and batting.
“I think it was a decent score. The wicket was a bit sticky, they were bowling well. We could have got 10-20 runs more. On a sticky wicket once you get a start you need to keep on going,” Samson said during the post-match ceremony.
Samson top-scored with 82 and wanted to build partnerships but a sticky wicket and regular falling of wickets did not allow them to gain the momentum they would’ve wanted.
“I wanted to keep going after the powerplay but we kept losing wickets, so I wanted to stick on and have a partnership. We wanted to put on a respectable total to fight back. But we got what we had targetted after the timeout. We need to work on bowling and batting. We need to be at our best every ball and execute well. We needed to lift our standards,” the right-handed batsman added.
Other than Yashasvi Jaiswal (36), Samson (82) and Mahipal Lomror (29), no other Royals batsmen could breach the double-figure mark. Evin Lewis (6), Liam Livingstone (4), Riyan Parag (0) and Rahul Tewatia (0) could not chip in with valuable runs.
The RR bowling unit was taken to the cleaners by SRH opener Jason Roy and captain Kane Williamson who scored 60 and 51, respectively. Mustafizur Rahman, Mahipal Lomror, Chetan Sakariya returned with one wicket each.
The Rajasthan-based franchise is now placed sixth in the IPL points table.
