Mike White, formerly a backup to QB Zach Wilson in the New York Jets team, lit up the field against the Chicago Bears on Sunday in Week 12. The QB had three touchdown passes in his first game of the 2022 NFL season.

Wilson was replaced as the starting QB this week after a string of poor performances and his play against the New England Patriots last week, where he completed just nine of his 22 passes for 77 yards, was enough to give the nod to the 27-year-old White.

By the end of the game, White has passed for 315 yards and completed 22 of his 28 passes for three endzone plays. He connected twice with Garret Wilson and once with Elijah Moore.  Both these players are the wide receivers for the Jets team.

This is just his fifth game in the league despite being drafted back in 2018. Of the previous four games played, in three of the games, he has passed for over 200 yards. He was even conferred with the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for a 405-yards, three TDs and two Interception performances against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 of the 2021 season.

He became the first Jets quarterback to throw for 400 yards or more since Vinny Testaverde in 2000, and the first quarterback in NFL history to do so in his first career start since Cam Newton did it in 2011. He also became the second quarterback in Jets history with multiple games of 300 Pass yards and 75% Comp along with Ken O’Brien who did it four times from 1983 to 1992.

Today’s performance by the New York Jets is just the fifth time when the team has passed for over 300 yards and has 150+ rushing yards to go with 31+ points.

Wilson had not been playing great prior to getting benched this week. In two years and after playing in 20 games as the team’s primary pass thrower, the number-two overall pick of the draft of 2021, has completed only 55.6% of his passes with 13 TDs and 16 interceptions to his name.

Even though the team has a 6-4 record and him playing in seven games this season, he has not had a remarkable performance that could keep the faith of the Jets fans in him.
