Neymar Jr, star PSG forward, missed a penalty against Riyadh 11 on Thursday. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, first scored from the spot and then equalised for his side at the King Fahd International Stadium.
PSG, who were reduced to 10 men, and Riyadh 11 were 2-2 at half-time, was awarded a penalty by the VAR after a foul on Neymar that the referee initially refused to give assuming that the Brazil star was playacting in the midst of it all.
However, the penalty was eventually awarded, but Neymar failed to convert. He was then trolled by football fans on social media for the effort which looked comical on the surface.
“Messi allowing Neymar to shot the penalty was the dumbest decision ever 🤦♀️,” a Twitter user said.
“Ronaldo scoring while neymar missed a penalty. NEVER compare them again,” a second one said.
“It’s official something is clearly wrong with Neymar tf he missed a penalty,” a third one tweeted.
“Neymar wins a penalty offers it to Messi who refuses to take it, Messi wins a penalty and gives to Mbappe, then there is my idol Penaldo who does a siuu celebration after scoring penalty in a friendly match,” tweeted another.
As a result of a series of substitutions on both sides, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi left the field, taking much of the excitement out of the game. The PSG manager also substituted Keylor Nevas and Achraf Hakimi, levelling the playing field significantly.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bacchan was led to meet the members of both XIs before to the start of the game. As the two sides stood on the field, he shook hands with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr., and Kylian Mbappe.
