The Arizona Cardinals won their first game of the 2022 NFL season against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Cardinals were down 20 to nothing at the end of the first half and a second successive defeat looked pretty clear from the far. But the team had an equally amazing second half of the game as the Raiders had during the first half.

Then the match was tied at 23-23 at the end of the fourth quarter, which meant overtime and the Cardinals held onto their nerves to beat the team from Vegas 29-23.

The game also marked the return of J.J Watt to the Cardinals. The team is still missing superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins who is still suspended for violation of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs

Breaking Down how the Cardinals came from 20 points down to claim the victory: –

First Quarter: –

On just the second play of the game, J.J. Watt sacked Derek Carr. Davante Adams scored on a one-yard run after the Raiders went 75 yards in 15 plays. However, it took the team approximately nine minutes of the first quarter to score this touchdown. The Cardinals had the ball for only four minutes in the first quarter.

Second Quarter: –

Arizona’s defense forced the Raiders to miss a 32-yard field goal, extending their lead to ten points. The Raiders add seven more points after setting up tight end Darren Waller for a three-yard touchdown catch, putting Vegas up 17-0. Kyler Murray threw an interception to cornerback Amik Robertson with 2:01 remaining in the third quarter. The Raiders then added a 55-yard field goal to make the score 20-0 at the half.

Third Quarter: –

Arizona finally scored in the game with six minutes left in the third quarter, when wide receiver Greg Dortch caught a pass from QB Murray, cutting the score to 20-7. However, the Raiders scored another field goal in the quarter to lead the game 23-7 heading into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter: – 

The Cardinals’ Darrell Williams scored a six-yard touchdown. Kyler Murray’s pass to A.J Green resulted in a successful two-point conversion tying the score at 23-23, resulting in the match heading to overtime.

Overtime: –

The Cardinals won the coin toss and chose to receive to start the overtime period. On fourth-and-one, Murray passed the ball to Marquise Brown, who was hit by Duron Harmon, knocking the ball loose and allowing Las Vegas to score. A fumble by wide receiver Hunter Renfrow was recovered by cornerback Byron Murphy Jr., who returned it for a touchdown, giving Arizona a 29-23 victory.
