Indianapolis Colts finally tasted their first victory of the 2022 NFL Season as they defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-17 at the Lucas Oil Stadium.

The team was able to get this win thanks to rookie wide receiver Jelani Woods who, first scored his maiden NFL touchdown in the game and then was the recipient of the final TD of the match as well.

Kansas City Chiefs looked poised to win their third consecutive game of the season after leading 17-14, going to the final quarter of the game. But then happened the longest drive of the game for the Colts. An eight-minute plus, 76-yard drive led to Woods’ game-winning TD followed by Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes being intercepted with just two seconds remaining in the game. 

Indianapolis Colts were brutally beaten in their last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars where they failed to register even a single point, the final score which was 24-0. QB Matt Ryan had one of his worst games as he threw three touchdowns in the game.

Coming into the game, the team, however, was confident as they were playing their first home game of the season and they couldn’t have thought of a better start to the game. Inside the first three minutes, Woods scored his first career NFL touchdown.

But with 34 seconds remaining in the first quarter, the Chiefs came back to score a touchdown of their own, Mahomes hit tight end Travis Kelce for a 3-yard play to open the scoring for the team from Kansas City. 7-6 in favor of Colts at the end of the 1st Quarter.

At the 6-minute mark of the second quarter, kicker Chase Mclaughlin extended the COlts’ lead by three points as he kicked a field goal for 43 yards. The Chiefs again responded this time also through a TD. Running Back Clyde  Edwards-Helaire rushed for 1 yard to end the half with a 14-10 lead for the Chiefs.

In the third quarter, both the teams could only manage field goals and had to settle for just three points each. Chiefs’ kicker Matt Ammendola kicked for a 26-yard FG while Colts’ Mclaughlin had a much longer 51-yard FG. At the end of this quarter, the visiting team led by just three points.

Chiefs missed a 42-yard field goal attempt in their play of this quarter that could have further increased their lead. From there on, it was just the home team all-over them. Ryan and Woods combined for a second time on the day as Woods had a 13-yard TD with 24-seconds remaining in the game. This gave the Colts’ a 20-17 lead but more importantly very less time for the opposition to draw a play. 

Patrick Mahomes hits WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling for 24 yards into Colts territory but his pass was intercepted by safety Rodney McLeod who ended the game for the season’s first win for the home team.
