It was very quiet Thursday Night in Denver as Indianapolis Colts defeated Denver Broncos, 12-9 in overtime to travel home with a hard-fought victory in Week 5. Broncos’ QB Russell Wilson attempted a last touchdown pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton but his 4th down pass was broken up by Colts’ cornerback Stephon Gilmore to end the game. Peyton Manning, who won the Super Bowl with both teams, was also in attendance.

Earlier in overtime, Colts took their first lead of the entire game after a successful field goal from the kicker Chase Mclaughlin.

The game ended with zero touchdowns for either of the team and only each team’s field-goal specialists took away the points.

Let’s have look at the key takeaways from the day: –

1) Bad Quarterback show

The result will be a tough pill to digest for both the quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Matt Rayn. Even though Ryan’s team won, his own performances in the game are nothing to be proud of. The veteran QB threw two interceptions in the game and only completed 63% of his passes. He also became the league leader in Sacks for the 2022 Season, with 19 under his name.

On the other hand, Russell Wilson had an even worse night at home, completing just 21 out of his 39 passes and throwing two interceptions in 274 passing yards. Fans booed the player for his poor outing and it would be a difficult task for the player to justify his recently signed $245 million contract extension.

2) Good Defense or poor offense?

Giving out a combined 21 points by both teams sounds like a great defensive game but in reality, it was a great mix of good defense and terrible offense by the teams facing on Thursday Night. No running back on either team could carry the ball for more than 100 yards with a total of four receivers from both squads being able to receive the football for 50+ yards. The defense of Colts and Broncos combined for four interceptions, 152 tackles and 10 sacks for the game.

3) A good day in the office for the Kickers

Only the kickers scored points for both teams on a night where each team failed to score a touchdown. Chase Mclaughlin of the Colts’ ended the game with four/four in-field goals made for 12 points while Brandon McManus scored from three of his four field goal attempts to score nine points for the orange team from Denver.

What’s next for each team:

The Denver Broncos will travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers in Week 6 while the Indianapolis Colts will welcome the high-flying Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, October 16.
