Denver Broncos starts well and take an early lead

The Denver Broncos began the game on a strong note, taking a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Their kicker Brandon McManus gave them an early 3-0 lead over the hosts in the first quarter, when he converted a 51-yard field goal with 7:20 left on the clock in the first quarter.

The field goal was followed by a 39-yard receiving touchdown by NFL debutant Greg Dulcich after he was found by quarterback Russell Wilson.

This helped the Broncos to take a 10-0 lead in the first quarter while not allowing any points from the Chargers.

Defenses take control midway through the game

While the Broncos’ defense looked mighty in the first quarter, the Chargers’ defense also grew with the game. While the first half ended with a scoreline of 13-10 in favour of the Broncos, a great defensive display by both sides saw only 6 points scored by the Chargers and 3 by the Broncos in the subsequent half.

This forced the game into overtime, where the Chargers clinched the win after scoring a field goal by Hopkins.

Offenses pushed backwards in overtime as defenses continue to dominate

The defenses of both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos continued their impressive performance in the overtime when a field goal by the hosts made all the difference.

The likes of Russell Wilson and Justin Herbert failed to come up with touchdown passes, whereas the defenses dominated in the overtime.

Key mistake late by Denver on a muffed punt

The Los Angeles Chargers backed up to 3rd and 15 using a false start. Quarterback Justin Herbert found Austin Ekeler over the middle, helping the latter to gain 6 yards. This resulted in a punt when a blocker was pushed into Washington as the punt hit him in his thigh. This was followed by the Chargers recovering at Denver Broncos’ 28-yard.
