The National Football League (NFL) has vehemently condemned the racial abuse directed at running back Alexander Mattison following the Minnesota Vikings’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
After the game, Mattison, who is of Black ethnicity, was the target of racial taunts on numerous social media sites. In a statement supporting Alexander Mattison, the NFL reaffirmed their unyielding opposition to all types of prejudice and hate speech.
The NFL in a statement, “The NFL strongly condemns the racist comments directed towards Alexander Mattison online after last night’s game. Such hateful behavior is completely unacceptable in the NFL or anywhere else. We stand firmly with Alexander and remind fans to remember the humanity of all players and celebrate their contributions to the game we all love.”
Alexander Mattison, a running back for the Minnesota Vikings, publicly disclosed the sexist and racist comments he had been sent after his team’s 34-28 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Mattison shared screenshots and disclosed that the messages contained racial epithets. Such reactions are wholly unreasonable despite the fact that he contributed 28 yards and a turnover to the game.
