With Bradley Chubb undergoing surgery on Wednesday to remove bone spurs from his left ankle, Denver Broncos signed inside linebacker Micah Kiser off the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad on a 1-year deal.

Kiser is a fourth-year pro who was selected by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He started nine games for the Rams in the first ten games of last season before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

In his nine starts, he recorded 77 tackles, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

Kiser, 26, didn’t make the Rams’ roster this season, but he was elevated from the practise squad last week and played special teams in the team’s 27-24 victory against Indianapolis.

Last season, he played for Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, who was previously the Broncos’ outside linebackers coach.

As Staley has patterned his defence after Denver coach Vic Fangio’s, the Broncos expect Kiser to make a smooth transition.

“He’s got a little bit of an advantage in that he spent the last year with the Rams, Staley was there, ran our system. So, there should be a quick carryover in learning for him,” Fangio opined.

They also promoted running back Damarea Crockett from their practice squad.

Reportedly, the Broncos might move rookie linebacker Baron Browning outside to give the team more options on the edge.

Meanwhile, Fangio said, he expects Pro Bowl pass rusher Chubb to return by November. “His procedure today was a roaring success” without any complications, the Broncos coach said. “And he’ll be back at some point. I think it’s in the six-week range would be the earliest, six to eight.”

Chubb was placed on injured reserve the same day as inside linebacker Josey Jewell. After injuring a chest muscle while playing special teams in the Broncos’ win over Jacksonville last weekend, Jewell will undergo surgery on Thursday.
