The NFL draft 2021 came to an end on Friday, with total of six players from Alabama having been drafted, the highest from any  state in this year’s drafts.

While Quarterbacks reigned supreme towards the beginning of the draft, Edge Rushers, Cornerbacks and Wide Tackles too seemed to be heavily in demand.

Jacksonville Jaguars, decidedly, were on a roll. The team, after scoring Lawrence earlier in the draft, drafted Clemson running back Travis Etienne, Lawrence’s former team mate, in an apparent bid to beef up their defence.

Washington Football Team drafted Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis to its team. At 6 feet 4 inches, Davis has been a freakish addition to the squad.

Alabama lineman Alex Leatherwood was drafted to Las Vegas Raiders.

New England Patriots, in the absence of captain Tom Brady, who won the NFL with Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, have seemingly decided to get a move on and strengthen their long-term quarterback option, as they picked up Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.

Arizona Cardinals drafted linebacker Zaven Collins from Tulsa. A defensive playmaker, Collins would definitely come in handy, especially in a division which consists of players like Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford and others.

Kyle Pitts, who was drafted from Florida to Atlanta Falcons, is the earliest ever pick at the Tight End position and might just be the best pick in this draft.

The first three picks saw Quarterbacks being early drafts, as Clemson University’s Trevor Lawrence was drafted to the Jacksonville Jaguars which kicked things off, followed by Bringham Young University’s Zach Wilson going to the New York Jets, and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance being drafted to San Francisco 49ers.

This marked 2021 to be the first year after 1971, where the first three drafts were all Quarterbacks.

Dallas Cowboys drafted Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons via the Philadelphia Eagles. After showcasing arguably one of the worst defences in the last season, the situation was seemingly addressed by picking Parsons, an All-American in 2019 and more recently, the performer of a solid 40 yard dash in 4.39 seconds.

Coupled with a playmaking lineup that includes Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley and Hayden Hurst, Pitts could be explosive for the Falcons in the upcoming season.

After the selection of the Tight End, two consecutive Wide Receivers were chosen by Bengals and Dolphins, with Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle being drafted to Cincinnati and Miami respectively.

Chase will be reuniting with his former LSU teammate Joe Burrow, who himself is a Quarterback with the Bengals.

Penei Sewell, on the other hand, after a productive year in Oregon as an explosive offensive tackle, was picked up by Detroit Lions. Notably, Sewell, in his entire time in Oregon, has allowed only one sack so far.

Jaycee Horn and Patrick Surtain II were the two cornerbacks to feature in the drafts next. While the Carolina Panthers bolstered their defence with Horn, Denver Broncos defence will surely be assisted by the addition of Surtain II, and will play a part in the game plan of Vic Fangio, the defensive mastermind of the Broncos.

Philadelphia Eagles, meanwhile, traded with their NFC rivals Dallas Cowboys to acquire Alabama Wide Receiver DeVonta Smith, quite possibly to put him alongside Jalen Hurts, his former college quarterback.

Chicago Bears traded off with New York Giants to get Ohio State Quarterback Justin Fields, who will be making his way to Chicago, seemingly to bring an end to the Mitch Trubisky-era in the team. Physically robust and with accurate passing skills, the addition of Fields should be reassuring to a Bears fan.
