Jacksonville Jaguars wide-receiver Jamal Agnew entered the NFL history books when he returned a missed field goal attempt into a 109-yard return touchdown, which is tied for the longest TD play in the history of the league.

This is the third time a 109-yard TD has been recorded in NFL history. Antonio Cromartie recorded a similar feat from a missed field goal while Cordarrelle Patterson scored the 109-yard TD from a kick return.

The record feat came in the most dramatic fashion after Arizona’s Matt Prater attempted for, what would have been an NFL-record, 68-yard field goal at the end of the first half. However, the attempt ended up leading to an NFL-record-tying 109-yard touchdown for the Jaguars instead. Prater’s kick fell just short and into the arms of Agnew.

Agnew, who returned a kickoff 102 yards in a loss to Denver Broncos last week, returned the short kick the other way for a score and a 13-7 lead at the break.

It was Agnew’s second touchdown return this season.

While running down the track, Agnew broke one tackle – tight end Demetrius Harris had his shirttail — and then found a wall of blockers along the left sideline. But he skipped past all the incoming challenges and outpaced the blockers.

It was the NFL’s first “Kick Six” since San Diego’s Cromartie did it at Minnesota on November 4, 2007.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Viking’s Patterson had a kickoff return on October 27, 2013.

Agnew has made his name as a return specialist for Jacksonville.  In Week 2 of the 2017 season, Agnew scored his first NFL touchdown on an 88-yard punt return in the fourth quarter in a 24–10 win over the New York Giants, earning him NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

In Week 3 of the 2019 season, Agnew returned a kick for a 100-yard touchdown in the 27-24 win against the Philadelphia Eagles. He then had a 64-yard punt return for a touchdown in the 27–17 loss against the Denver Broncos in Week 16.
