Thanks to a touchdown and 167-yard worth throws from quarterback Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens humbled Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers in a 34-6 victory on Sunday.

A week after scoring 47 points in a win over Cleveland, the Chargers (4-2) came up empty on their first five possessions and were held under 16 points for only the second time since drafting Herbert before last season.

This clash of division leaders was thoroughly dominated by the Ravens. Latavius Murray, Le’Veon Bell, and Devonta Freeman, Baltimore’s three experienced running backs, each scored a touchdown.

Jackson completed 19 of 27 passes for 19 yards and two interceptions. Herbert completed 22 of 39 passes for 195 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Despite the fact that the much-anticipated showdown between these two brilliant quarterbacks fell short of expectations, Baltimore prevailed thanks to a comprehensive team effort.

Meanwhile, Jackson also became the QB with the highest victories before turning 25. He will turn 25 on January 7th, 2022 and already has 35 wins.

On their first drive, the Ravens drove 90 yards in 12 plays in 6:39, taking the lead on a 14-yard run by Murray. The Chargers had the NFL’s worst run defence before the game, yet the Ravens rushed for 187 yards — a week after their record-tying string of 43 straight 100-yard rushing games was broken.

Early in the second quarter, Bell scored on a 2-yard run to put Baltimore up 14-0. On its first three drives, Los Angeles punted and then turned the ball over on downs. Then, for the first time since Week 2, Herbert was intercepted. Over the previous three games, he’d thrown 11 touchdown passes and the Chargers had scored 105 points.

After Herbert’s interception, Jackson threw an interception of his own, and the Chargers scored only after taking over on the Baltimore 27. The score was 17-6 after Herbert’s 1-yard touchdown throw to Jared Cook.

In the second half, the Ravens grabbed the ball first and marched 52 yards in 12 plays, consuming over half of the third quarter and putting them up 24-6 on Jackson’s 9-yard touchdown throw to Mark Andrews.

The Ravens’ deliberate approach — combined with the Chargers’ inability to stop the run — resulted in a huge time of possession deficit. The ball was in Baltimore’s possession for slightly over 38 minutes.
