In the highly-anticipated clash against New England Patriots, Tom Brady broke yet another record when he became NFL‘s all-time passing yards leader on Sunday.

Brady broke the record with his 28-yard pass to wide receiver Mike Evans and now leads the passing yards record with 80,359. The 44-year-old is followed by Drew Brees, with 80,358 yards, and Peyton Manning at third with 71,940 yards.

The six-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots who also led Tampa Bay to the championship last season made his return to Foxborough in a highly charged atmosphere. So much so that, after a friendly greeting for the quarterback during pregame warmups, the fans were in no mood to offer him a welcome when the game began.

Brady completed two passes on the Buccaneers first drive before they stalled and punted. He stoically headed to the sideline — on the opposite side of the field from where he usually settled as a Patriot — with little reaction to the fans’ jeers.

He took the Bucs into scoring range on their next possession, however, surpassing the passing record of Drew Brees, too.

Placekicker Ryan Succop’s field goal a few plays later — after Brady misfired on a couple of throws — gave Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead.

Ahead of the game, Brady met and embraced Patriots owner Robert Kraft outside the visitor’s locker room before Sunday’s return to Gillette Stadium for the star quarterback.

The Patriots honoured the 20 memorable years that Brady served the New England side with an in-stadium tribute video ahead of the kick-off.

Brady, who left New England in 2020 after leading the Patriots to those six Super Bowl titles, then won another in his first season with Tampa Bay, even appeared comfortable heading to a dressing room he was totally unfamiliar with.
