Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) dropped a bombshell recently when he revealed that he had played a part in Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski signing for NFL side Las Vegas Raiders. However, as the deal approached the finishing line, then-Raiders coach Jon Gruden backed out of it at the final moments. A possible compilation of the deal could have made the NFL very different to what it is currently.

Some of the particular repercussions of the deal would have been the Tampa Bay Buccaneers not winning the Super Bowl in the 2020 season and Davante Adams not signing for the Raiders.

While many fans would have been unhappy with former Raiders coach Jon Gruden backing out of the deal, chances are it helped the Raiders to shape their future.

The Las Vegas Raiders did not have as good as a team they currently have ahead of the 2020 season, and according to former league scout John Middlekauff has said that the deal not going through was better for both Brady and the Raiders.

“I mean, Jon would’ve gotten fired still, it would’ve been a disaster,” Middlekauff said on the Haberman & Middlekauff podcast.

He also lauded Raiders’ owner Mark Davis for agreeing with Gruden to not go through with the deal. Middlekauff insisted that he believes Brady’s move to the Raiders would not have worked out.

The Raiders were far from competing at the Super Bowl, even with the inclusion of Brady. They did not qualify for the playoffs and were placed in the second position in the AFC West in the previous season. Henry Ruggs and Bryan Edwards, two rookie wide receivers started for them in that season and the defense turned out to be among the worst in the NFL.

Apart from that, both Brady and Gruden are known to be liking control over the gameplay, which means there could have been clashes between the two.

However, not signing Brady came with several perks for the Raiders. They are now in a much better place than they were three years ago. Carr is much younger than Brady and he is the primary reason behind Adams’ move to the team. On the other hand, Brady has already retired once in the offseason and this could be the last season of his career.
