Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez congratulated his former club Liverpool after the Reds’ 6-5 win over Chelsea on penalties in the FA Cup final on Saturday, making a perfect evening for Liverpudlians even better.

The 35-year-old Uruguayan, who left Anfield nearly a decade ago, took to Instagram to congratulate his former club.

“Congratulations to [Liverpool] for winning the FA Cup! YNWA,” posted Suarez on an Instagram story, referring to Liverpool’s iconic club anthem, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

Despite leaving for Barcelona, Suarez remains an immensely popular figure among the Reds of Merseyside due to his electric performances for Liverpool under former manager Brendan Rodgers.

An instant hit from his debut game wherein he rounded Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begović to score, Suarez went on to score 82 goals in 133 appearances for Liverpool from 2011 to 2014.

During the 2013-2014 season, Suarez scored a whopping 31 goals for Liverpool, equalling Cristiano Ronaldo and Alan Shearer’s record of the most number of goals scored in a 38-game Premier League season. Suarez’s record stood for years till it was broken by the prolific Mohamed Salah in the 2017-2018 season when the Egyptian scored 32 goals to become the Premier League’s highest scorer in a single season.

Even after leaving Liverpool, Suarez was prolific, and his time at Barcelona saw the forward score a whopping 193 goals in 282 appearances, making him Barcelona’s third-highest goalscorer in history. The Uruguayan was also prolific on the creative side, and bagged 113 assists during his stint at Barcelona from 2014-2020.

Despite his contributions, however, Barcelona booted the forward due to his age, but Suarez went on to make a statement in emphatic fashion the following season, leading Atletico Madrid to their first La Liga title in seven years.
