Olivier Giroud, the all-time top goalscorer for France, hugged the Moroccan coach Walid Regragui as the FIFA World Cup 2022 semi-final clash between France and Morocco at the Al Bayt Stadium ended 2-0 in favor of the Les Bleus. 

Giroud was teammates with Regragui when they both played for Grenoble in 2008.

Morocco will now be playing in the third-place playoffs against their Group F opponent Croatia on Saturday, December 17, after they lost to Lionel Messi-led Argentina in the first semi-final.

France, on the other hand, will now meet Argentina for the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Sunday, December 18.

While France have the chance to become the world champion for the second consecutive time, Lionel Messi will look to add the FIFA World Cup to his trophy cabinet- the only one missing in his illustrious career in football.

Morocco has had one of the most memorable underdogs runs in the FIF World Cup after the became the first African nation to reach the semi-final of a FIFA World Cup. On their way to the final four, they managed to get the better of footballing giants such as Belgium, Spain and Portugal.

Morocco created a lot of chances in the match, till the very last minute, but failed to convert any of them in the end. France took an early lead in the 5th minute thanks to Theo Hernandez, who netted a good opportunity inside the box. 

The second goal for France came in the 79th minute from the Eitchtrat Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani, who came on as a substitute in place of Olivier Giroud.
