David Warner‘s magnificent 92 not out off 58 balls powered Delhi Capitals to a 21-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 50th match of the 2022 Indian Premier League in Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Thursday. Praising the opener’s powerful knock, DC skipper Rishabh Pant said, “The way he batted, the way he paced the innings, it’s one of the best innings.”
The 35-year-old Australian made his highest score of the season with the help of 12 fours and three sixes. He, along with Rovman Powell (67 not out off 35 balls), stitched 122 runs for the fourth wicket as they scored 70 runs from the final five overs to guide their team to 207 for 3 after being asked to bat.

After the first innings, Powell told the broadcasters that Warner sacrificed his century for his team. He needed eight runs to complete his ton but chose to let Powell stay on strike and continue to hit big runs for the side. Powell went on to hit SRH pacer Umran Malik for three boundaries and one six.
“I asked DW if I should get a single to allow his 100 but he told me, ‘that’s not how the game is played’, and told me to go big,” Powell said after the first innings.
David Warner, who was sacked from captaincy and dropped from the Sunrisers playing eleven last year, was awarded Player of the Match.
“It’s a really nice wicket, I’ve had some success here. I knew if I played my strokes, it was going to come off. Challenging here in Mumbai with the humidity and I was cooked there towards the back end, I am getting older. Having Rovman at the other end was amazing. I didn’t need extra motivation, we’ve seen what’s happened before, it was good to get the win,” Warner said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
