Ramiz Raja, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, on Sunday tweeted his video from 2019 backing Prime Minister Imran Khan. In the 30-second clip, also shared by Khan’s party PTI, Raja can be seen speaking about the reasons he thought his former teammate would succeed as a politician. 

PCB and Pakistan’s politics have been closely affiliated. On Sunday, after PM Imran Khan’s no-confidence vote was called off in the National Assembly, the board said that it was relieved.

Khan, who led Pakistan to the 1992 World Cup, was elected to power in 2018. He is aiming to become the first PM of the country to complete a full-term.

Ramiz Raja, who was also a part of the 1992 team, in the 2019 video said that Khan is bound to succeed. He posted the video with the caption, “Dare I say more!”.

“You might do whatever analysis and talk about issues like inflation and other things. Please mark my words and it is actually a prophecy. He (Imran Khan) will succeed. He is bound to succeed. You can try your best but he will succeed and will prove you wrong again and again. This is because he has good intentions, he is hardworking and very intelligent,” Ramiz Raja can be heard saying in the clip of the old interview with Pakistani actor Samina Peerzada.

Raja, who was a commentator, was given job at the PCB by Imran Khan in September last year.

The PCB chief shared the video at a time when Pakistan’s opposition is fighting Imran Khan in the Supreme Court after the PM, along with President Arif Alvi, dissolved the National Assembly and called for snap elections within 90 days. The no-confidence vote against Khan was called off. 

Pakistan’s former chief justice Gulzar Ahmed was on Monday nominated for the office of the caretaker prime minister by incumbent Imran Khan.
