Paraguay began their Copa America 2021 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Bolivia on Tuesday at Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico. Three second-half goals, one from Alejandro Romero and two from Angel Romero, cancelled Erwin Saavedra’s opening goal, to provide Paraguay with all three points.

Bolivia’s Saavedra broke the deadlock in the 10th minute with a penalty. They were down to ten men deep in first-half stoppage time after Jaume Cuellar was sent off in 45+9th minute. 

Paraguay came into the second half with all guns blazing. In total, they had 34 shots, against Bolivia’s four. In the 62nd minute, Alejandro scored the equaliser. And three minutes later, Angel put Paraguay in front. And the telling blow came in the 80th minute when Angel scored the insurance goal.

With a man down, Bolivia had very little possession and were left to defend the Paraguayan attack throughout the second half. They had a total of two shots on target with 21% possession and 67% pass accuracy. They committed 10 fouls and received two yellow cards.

Paraguay had 11 shots on target with possession of 71% and 93% pass accuracy. They committed 12 fouls and received two cards. They also had seven corners.

Paraguay’s win took them to the top of Group B after Chile and Argentina settled for a 1-1 draw
