Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, was greeted with MVP chants ahead of his side’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders at the Allegiant Stadium on Saturday.

Mahomes is widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks of his generation. Although he spent his rookie season playing second fiddle to Alex Smith, Mahomes came into his own in 2018, when he recorded throws for a total of 5,097 yards and 50 touchdown passes, equalling the record of Peyton Manning. Mahomes was declared the MVP of the season.

In the 2019 season, he led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. He was declared the game’s MVP as well.

The 27-year-old quarterback currently has the third biggest contract in the history of sports after association football legends Lionel Messi (at Barcelona) and Cristiano Ronaldo (at Al-Nassr). His 10-year contract with the Chiefs has a total valuation of $503,000,000, with Mahomes earning around $2,465,686 per game.

The 2022 season has also seen Mahomes continue his dominance at the highest level. He has recorded the 12th rushing touchdown of his career in this season, which is a record for the franchise.

Mahomes has also been named to his fifth Pro Bowl of the season in 2022.

Mahomes has for long been touted as the next big thing in the NFL after Tom Brady. He has been phenomenal in his stint so far at the top, but it remains to be seen whether he manages to keep up his performance for as long as Brady has.
