World Cup winner Paul Pogba, who has moved from Manchester United to Juventus after the end of the 2021-22 season, has claimed that he has been threatened by gangsters and has also been a target of extortion. French police have now launched an investigation regarding the same. Pogba had released a statement suggesting his brother Mathias might be the one behind the threats.

After these allegations, his brother, Mathias, uploaded a video on Instagram and other social media platforms where he claimed that the star midfielder has placed a curse on PSG forward and his teammate in the France squad, Kylian Mbappe. Mathias also claimed that his brother “really wanted to shut me up completely to lie and send me to prison.”

In the video, Mathias stated, “The whole world deserves to know certain things so the public can decide if [Paul Pogba] really deserves the admiration, the respect, his place in the France team, if he is a trustful person and worth representing the world’s youth, working-class areas and big brands”.

Notably, Paul Pogba had informed the police that he had been threatened by “childhood friends and two hooded men” who were carrying assault rifles. The blackmailers demanded 13 million euros from the ace midfielder if the latter wanted them to not release certain compromising videos.

Paul Pogba released a statement of his own after these allegations were made by his brother. The Manchester United academy graduate’s statement read, “The recent declarations of Mathias Pogba on social media are unfortunately not a surprise. They are coming after threats and attempts of extortion by an organised gang against Paul Pogba.”

The statement also added that law enforcement authorities have been reported of the same and that there will be no further comment in this regard from Pogba’s camp for the time being. The statement bore the signatures of his lawyers as well as those of Pogba’s mother Yeo Moriba, and his agent Rafaela Pimenta
