Tottenham failed to put a shot on target for the second game in a row as the Premier League side drew with Brentford 0-0 on Saturday, dampening hopes of a top-four finish in the league table.

After Arsenal slid into fourth upon beating Manchester United at Emirates, Spurs delivered a sub-par performance in west London, lessening their chances. Antonio Conte’s side again looked devoid of all attacking creativity, reminding viewers of the side’s 1-0 loss to Brighton last weekend.

Things could have been much worse for Spurs, but Ivan Toney hit the woodwork twice, preventing Brentford from making it four wins in a row. Former Spurs player Christian Eriksen appeared in Brentford colours, after returning from a hiatus from professional football. The Danish player suffered a cardiac arrest, which essentially ended his Serie A career. Before starting today’s game for Brentford, Eriksen made it a point to interact with his previous teammates, while waiting in the passage.

Tottenham’s front three of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski were again blunted indicating that the Spurs tactic is not working, resulting in unfavourable results.

However, the London club still has the chance to remain in the top four. They will face Arsenal in a home game that could turn out to be the big decisive fixture for the Champions League race. If teams don’t qualify in the top four of their league, they cannot take part in the Champions League.

The Gunners are looking like a steady side with their two wins against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and today, against United. They’ve won comfortably besting Chelsea 4-2 and beat United 3-1 as well.

Tottenham is fifth, two points behind Arsenal and four clear of sixth-placed Manchester United.

Spurs also have an upcoming game against Liverpool on May 8, as the Merseyside club is breathing down City’s neck as a title contender.
