PM Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone for the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in
Meerut, Uttar Pradesh today.

The huge project is
set to have a Rs.700 crore budget, according to a statement by the Prime
Minister’s Office. The Meerut University is set to cover small villages
including Salawa and Kaili and will have a stellar infrastructure with facilities
such as sports grounds, a gymnasium hall, a stadium, a state-of-the-art
pool, a massive hall, and a cycling velodrome.

With the elections in
the state right around the corner, the Prime Minister envisions seeing the
country offer great sportspersons to the world. As PM Modi gears up for his
second term in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lined up an array of projects to inaugurate, including the inauguration of the Kanpur
Metro Rail Project.

After India’s incredible performance at the
Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics this year, the Modi-led government decided to
have a razor-sharp focus on sports, thus planning to establish elaborate plans
to make the country yield more sportspersons. The government decided to execute
the plans by setting up sports facilities and other related infrastructures across the
country.

The Major Dhyan Chand Sports University is set
to be able to have the capacity to train at least 1,080 sportspersons, including
around 540 women. The state-of-the-art university will also have shooting
ranges, and sports activities such as squash, archery, weightlifting, canoeing,
and more. The university will be spread across
91 acres of land.

of the country include-

1. Army Sports
Institute, Pune

Established
on July 1, 2001, the academy was established to focus on the athletic talents
and abilities of those serving in the army. The institute trains in seven
sports including boxing, diving, archery, wrestling, weightlifting, athletics and
fencing.

2. MP Academy, Bhopal

Established
in 2016, this sports academy offers world-class training to athletes from all
across the country. Many skilled coaches offer extensive training at the sports
facility.

3. Usha
School of Athletics, Kerala

Led under the guidance of top athlete PT Usha,
this athletic school provides not just training, but counselling, diets and scientifically
devised diet plans to its training athletes.

4. Kalinga
Institute of Industrial Technology, Odisha

The
Kalinga training institute is one of India’s finest institutes, providing world-class
sports amenities to its students. The 400 acre institution has groomed celebrated
sportspersons who have competed on an international level.

5. Anju
Bobby George Sports Foundation, Karnataka

Led by former athlete duo Anju and Bobby George, this foundation offers athletic
training, especially to those belonging to grassroot areas.
