In a fascinating new update, pop star Dua Lipa will be added to FIFA 21 as a playable character in the near future, a data mine of the videogame revealed.
The game, which was released on October 5, will feature the singer along with several other celebrity characters to beef up the crossover appeal of the long-running title from EA Sports. ‘Love Is Religion’ — a track from the Grammy-winner’s ‘Club Future Nostalgia’ — is already featured on the game’s soundtrack.
Dataminer Blade Johnson went through the game’s code line by line and posted pictures of the in-game character.
However, Dua Lipa will follow a long list of celebrities who will feature in the latest game; from F1 champion Lewis Hamilton to musician DJ Snake, all of them are set to be on the game.
Football legend David Beckham is also set to return as the cover star for the first time since FIFA 98.
“23 years later…so proud to be back on the cover…” the former Real Madrid star wrote on Instagram.
Australian Daniel Ricciardo will be the second F1 driver to be added to the game, while NBA will be represented by two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers Joel Embiid.
While it’s still not clear in which mode will all these new characters will be available, it’s quite likely that they will exclusively feature in the 5v5 Volta mode (a rendition of futsal).
