Matchday 17 in the Premier League saw a series of tight encounters. While table toppers Arsenal maintained their lead courtesy a 2-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Manchester City kept the chase on with a 3-1 away win over Leeds United.

Manchester United, playing without Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the club in November, sailed home with a 3-0 win against Nottingham Forrest. However, the talking point of the weekend was Tottenham’s mega save as they caught up with a 0-2 deficit to finally sign truce over Brentford on Monday.

Here we have a look at the top five moments from the weekend

1. Harry Kane scores at Brentford

Harry Kane scored the first of the Spurs’ two goals that helped them salvage a draw with Brenford. Kane had been subject to severe criticism after he failed to score a penalty over France in the quarter-finals of the World Cup that denied England a chance to equalise the match and take it to extra-time. An important goal that helped the team’s cause is a welcome sign and is sure to add to his confidence levels.

2. Manchester United fans sing viva Garnacho instead of viva Ronaldo

Although Cristiano Ronaldo’s spectacular exit from United following a notorious interview with Piers Morgan in November was all over the news, the fans at United seemed to have gotten over the Ronaldo effect as they replaced the familiar Viva Ronaldo with Viva Garnacho, in favour of the 18-year-old Spanish sensation Alejandro Garnacho.

Ivan Toney‘s 55th minute strike took Brenford’s lead to 2-0. Toney, despite being the third highest scorer in this season’s premier league, was not included in England’s World Cup squad earlier this year. It had been widely speculated, though officially denied by the Football Association, that he was dropped in view of the betting charges against him.
