The second matchday of the Premier League 2022-23 will continue on Sunday evening when Liverpool takes on Crystal Palace at home. The Reds, who were forced to a draw in their season opener against Fulham on August 6, will look to finally get their maiden victory in the new season against Palace.

Palace, on the other hand, began their new Premier League season underwhelmingly with a defeat against Arsenal. While Patrick Vieira’s side has made several adjustments in the summer transfer window, they could not clinch a win in the first match and currently sits in 18th place on the table.

The Reds are already behind defending champions Manchester City by five points, which could prove valuable to the latter as the season progresses. Crystal Palace is also the first team to visit Anfield this season, which will surely prove to be a tough match for them.

Liverpool lost Thiago Alcantara to an injury against Fulham, which will prove to be a costly miss against Palace. However, the Reds have not lost against Crystal Palace in the last 10 Premier League matches, with their previous loss against the Eagles at Anfield coming in 2017.

Apart from Thiago, who is set to miss out on four to six weeks of action with an injured thigh, Liverpool is also missing five more first-team players owing to injuries. Navy Keita is expected to be featured in the starting lineup with Kostas Tsimikas, who is also back in training and is also likely to get some action.

Harvey Elliott is expected to start for Liverpool in the midfield as Thiago’s replacement. Joe Gomez might return to the starting lineup to replace Joel Matip, who has a groin issue.

Darwin Nunez is being touted to be handed his Anfield debut on Sunday against Palace. Firmino might start from the bench, with Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz making up the frontline.

On the other hand, Crystal Palace also has several players out with injuries. Nathan Ferguson is out for long while James McArthur and James Tomkins are currently recovering.

Michael Olise, who had a foot injury and was not part of the action against Arsenal, could be handed a start against Liverpool. Cheick Doucoure, who was substituted against Arsenal because of a cramp, could once again be handed a start on Sunday.

The Crystal Palace defence is expected to be the same as the previous match with Vicente Guaita, Nathaniel Clyne, Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell all starting. However, Odsonne Edouard could be replaced with Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Crystal Palace (4-3-3): Guaita (GK), Clyne, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, Eze, Doucoure, Schlupp, Ayew, Mateta, Zaha
