19-year-old Priyam Garg played a starring role as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) sealed their
second win of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, beating Chennai
Super Kings (CSK) by seven runs at the Dubai International Stadium.

The result continues the trend of teams unable
to chase in the UAE as just 11 of the 14 matches so far has seen the team
batting first going on to win.

CSK’s diminishing prospects were kept alive
by a superb fifty from Ravindra Jadeja and a 47-run knock from skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who recovered well after sluggish starts.

SRH asserted control in their
defence of the 164-run total, cheaply dismissing men-in-form Ambati Rayudu and
Faf du Plessis. Kedar Jadhav soon followed as he was caught
by skipper David Warner at covers.

Earlier, pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck in
the first over to pile further misery on CSK opener Shane Watson, who chopped a
wide delivery back on to the stumps to continue his poor start to IPL 2020.

Watson has scored a combined 52 runs from
48 deliveries so far, including a 21-ball 33 against former side Rajasthan Royals.

For the Hyderabad outfit, Priyam Garg
scored his maiden IPL fifty and Abhishek Sharma pitched in with a well-made 31
from 24 balls as the two pulled their side out of a precarious position to lead
them to a strong finish.

CSK were largely on top during the first
innings as a disastrous 11th over for SRH saw skipper David Warner dismissed
followed by a mix-up between Kane Williamson and Garg, which resulted in the
Kiwi being run out.

Deepak Chahar struck early for CSK,
removing England international Jonny Bairstow in the first over to give skipper Dhoni
the perfect start to the match.

They continued to put pressure on the SRH
batsmen, starving them of loose deliveries, which eventually accounted for
Manish Pandey’s wicket, who punched a full-length delivery from Shardul Thakur
straight to Sam Curran at mid-off for an easy catch.

Dhoni’s charges languish at the bottom of
the points table as a concoction of misfiring openers, absence of key players
and inconsistent spinners led to their third consecutive after defeats against
Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.

Sunrisers, who ended their five-match
losing streak – which included their losses in the opening two matches this
year – with a win against the Capitals in their last outing, propel themselves
to fourth spot in the points table.

Both CSK and SRH will next be in action on
Sunday, with Dhoni’s side taking on Kings XI Punjab while Warner’s charges will
face defending champions and table-toppers Mumbai Indians.
