Quin Snyder has been hired as coach of the Atlanta Hawks to replace the fired Nate McMillan, the team announced Sunday. The Hawks reached an agreement with Snyder on a five-year deal only five days after firing McMillan on Tuesday. The team has scheduled a news conference for Monday to introduce Snyder.
He will reportedly make $8 million a season with the Hawks, although the contract details are private and it is hard to exactly determine the amount.
Quin Snyder is a highly respected basketball coach with over two decades of coaching experience. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Duke University in 1993, where he worked under the legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Snyder spent six years at Duke before moving on to become an assistant coach in the NBA.

In 2010, Snyder was named head coach of the Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team, where he led the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances during his four-year tenure. He was also named Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2012. After leaving Missouri in 2014, Snyder spent a season as an assistant coach for the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers before being named head coach of the Utah Jazz in 2014.
Under Snyder’s leadership, the Jazz have become one of the top teams in the Western Conference, with multiple playoff appearances and a trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2021. Snyder is known for his innovative and analytical approach to coaching, as well as his ability to develop young talent. He has been widely praised by players and fellow coaches for his basketball acumen and leadership skills.
