Rajat Patidar‘s magnificent 49-ball hundred guided Royal Challengers Bangalore to an imposing 207 for 4 against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League Eliminator on Wednesday. The 28-year-old top-order batter’s 54-ball-112 not-out had 12 fours and seven huge sixes.
For those unversed, he went unsold in the IPL 2022 mega-auction and came into the Royal Challengers Bangalore side as a replacement for Karnataka’s Luvnith Sisodia. He is now the first uncapped player and Bangalore batter to score a century in the playoffs.
He won the Player of the Match award on Wednesday.
“When I time the ball, my focus was on it. The last over of the powerplay when Krunal was bowling to me, my execution went fine then and I got confident afterwards. The wicket was pretty good and I played some good shots. I never feel any pressure as I think I have the ability to make up for the dots. I was busy after the 2021 IPL playing for my club. I wasn’t picked after the 2021 IPL but that wasn’t in my control,” he said at the post-match presentation.
