Real Madrid finally launched its professional women’s team on 1 July. The team was created after the Galactico’s launched a fresh project after absorbing CD Tacon.
Madrid who has been termed the best team of the 20th century by FIFA is among few elite clubs who did not create a female outfit in their 118-year history.
After taking over the Tacon, a club based in Madrid, Real Madrid released a statement “Real Madrid Femenino” will become a reality and said “Our women’s football section will be made up of the senior and under-16s to under-19s teams. A youth structure that will allow us to remain faithful to our philosophy of identifying, training, and developing young talent.”
“Real Madrid are looking forward to this new challenge with a commitment to promoting women’s football and contributing to its development and growth in our society,” they also added according to an AFP report.
Madrid based Tacon was purchased for 300,000 euros ($337,000) a move that has finally been made official. Now yet another recruitment drive is about to begin.
The Spanish press has reported that Madrid now has their sight on procuring the finest talents the game has to offer and the first few signings will be made in the upcoming weeks.
Tacon had already signed Swedish internationals Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson,but club officials claim that more changes will happen soon.
The club has already set its sight on being top contenders in Spain and Europe alike.They will also strive to challenge the supremacy of Barcelona’s women’s team.
The club has been coached by David Aznar since the start of the season and the matches were conducted at Valdebebas,in close proximity to the Santiago Bernabeu.
According to a report by AFP Ada Hegerberg, the first winner of the Women’s Ballon d’Or in 2018, stated that the move will be a huge positive for women’s football. She added that it was huge positive that the biggest men’s club in the world was now investing in the women’s side.
