It was redemption hour for Britain’s Dillian Whyte as he avenged his defeat against Alexander Povetkin to be crowned WBC Interim Heavyweight champion on Saturday in a clash dubbed ‘Rumble on the Rock’.

In front of only 500 fans, 32-year-old Whyte knocked out his Russian opponent in the fourth round.

Last August, Whyte twice put Povetkin on the canvas, only to see the former WBA champion defeat him with a fifth-round knockout.

‘The Body Snatcher’ was a man on the mission as he landed a straight jab on Povetkin and send him stumbling. The Russian bounced back off the ropes right into the path of the hungry Brit.

Whyte snapped up a combination of left and right hook and ended the affair with a thunderous left hook to knock out Povetkin.

However, the Brit wasn’t the happiest as he exclaimed: “I’m sad it didn’t finish in the first round. I could’ve finished him early.”

Inevitably still disgusted with his loss last summer, he said, “I’m willing to run it back again, if he wants the rematch? I’m annoyed, I shouldn’t have lost the first time.”

“All I had to do was be a bit smarter.”

Ahead of Saturday’s fight, Whyte said the victory should give him a shot at facing the winner of a future bout between Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury, with the undisputed heavyweight title on the line.

So boxing fans could in for an all-Brit enticing bout in the near future.
