The quarterfinals of FIFA World Cup 2022 have all seen contentious refereeing decisions, and the same happened in the match between powerhouses England and France. Harry Kane was denied a penalty while fans believe France’s goal should have been disallowed since there was a foul on youngster Bukayo Saka.

Check out some of the reactions right here:

France went ahead in the match thanks to a goal by Aurélien Tchouaméni. However, in the second half, their lead was neutralised by a Harry Kane penalty. Olivier Giroud netted in another to give Les Bleus the lead that would help them go on to book their place in the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Kyle Walker said regarding Kane’s penalty miss, “He scored many crucial penalties. That takes big character to step up on both occasions. He’s a big character and a leader. I can assure you there are 25 lads in the dressing room behind him.”

The match between Argentina and Netherlands was another one in which the referee’s decisions were put to question. He shelled out 15 yellow cards in the match, even booking the captains of the two sides, Lionel Messi and Virgil Van Dijk. At the end of the match, Messi himself was furious, and went on to say that FIFA should look into the matter since the referee was not up to the job.
