‘Rigged World Cup’ started trending on social media after Lionel Messi and Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022 defeating France in the final at Lusail Stadium on Sunday. Fans started calling out Polish referee Szymon Marciniak for awarding La Albiceleste a penalty which led to Messi’s first goal in the final.

“All you Ronaldo fans thinking it was a rigged World Cup stop acting like a baby and come back to Twitter when you are a grown ass man,” another fan said.
The anguish about Argentina lifting the trophy seemed to come from Ronaldo fans. Messi fans have been saying that winning the World Cup would settle the debate on who the greatest of all time is and no doubt after Messi and co. won the tournament they were unhappy.

“Rigged World Cup” is trending and almost everyone tweeting has Ronaldo as profile pic,” another fan observed.
