Robert Lewandowski’s transfer to FC Barcelona was one of the most-followed stories of the 2022 summer transfer window. The Poland international came out saying that he wanted to leave Bayern Munich, who initially made it clear that he is not going anywhere. However, the striker later joined the LaLiga giants for a fee in the region of €50 million.

It was rumoured that Lewandowski wanted to leave his Bavarian employers because the club wanted to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. However, the Poland international striker has denied the rumours, saying it had nothing to do with his exit from the club.

“No, my departure had nothing to do with Erling. I am a guy who even if something’s not good for me – truth is more important. I don’t want to speak about what happened exactly,” Lewandowski told ESPN.

The 33-year-old reiterated that he did not see it as an issue whether Haaland joined Bayern instead of Manchester City and alleged people of lying to him.

“But if the question is if the decision to move was because of him, no, I didn’t see a problem if he joined Bayern Munich. But some kind of people don’t say to me the truth, they say something different,” he said.

Lewandowski also accused the management of Bayern Munich of politicising his contract negotiations, something he said also happened during his last few weeks with the Bundesliga giants.

“Everything that’s happened in the last maybe few weeks before I left Bayern Munich, that was also of course a lot of politics. The club tried to find an argument why they can sell me to another club because before it was difficult to explain maybe to the fans,” he quipped.

The striker went on to say that he knows the fans still support him over his decision to leave Bayern Munich in the summer.
